About Manfishers
Knowing leads to growing! (page 6)

If you’re interested in learning more about how
Manfishers can help your church or ministry develop a
true discipling relationship with one of our partners in
the field, or perhaps you’re interested in volunteering
for an upcoming trip, please do not hesitate to
contact us. We would be happy to talk with you more
about your relationship with Christ and His calling on
your life to follow Him and be a fisher of men!
So, what now? Well, you need to build your relationship with God, and like any
relationship, that's done by communication. Talk to God in prayer. You don't have to use
old English or special words -- just talk to Him. Share with Him your thoughts, fears,
hopes, ambitions, problems, accomplishments, etc. And always thank Him for saving
you, because the more you thank Him, the greater your assurance will grow that He has!
Next, let Him speak to you by reading His word, the Bible. Start in the book of John (in
the New Testament) and read about a chapter a day. If you don't understand something,
you can ask someone (like me, for example) to explain it, but more importantly, just
keep reading. There'll be enough there that you do understand, and before long you'll
begin to understand the things you didn't understand before. Understand? :-)
Third, get involved in a Bible-believing, God-loving church. Primarily, it needs to be a
church whose teachings coincide with those of the Bible: salvation by faith alone,
evangelism to share the message of God with the world, etc. Go to the pastor of that
church and tell him that you've been saved. If he doesn't rejoice with you about your
decision, find another church! Further, he should talk to you about baptism. Baptism in
and of itself has nothing whatsoever to do with salvation. It is not a requirement or a
prerequisite of any kind. However, the first act of Jesus when He began His ministry
was to be baptized. Therefore, as Christians who strive to model their life after Christ,
our example, we believe it is an appropriate public display of our new faith to be
baptized. It is merely an act of obedience to God's example and His teaching.
Also, within that church you will find other Christians with whom you can relate. You
should get to know them and develop a bond with them -- Christianity is not a
particularly easy way of life, and it can help to have someone with whom you can talk
and on whom you can rely.
Lastly, tell someone what's happened to you! You don't have to be "trained" to explain
what it is that you've done. Who else can be a better expert on your own experiences
than you?
There's nothing more personal than an individual's relationship with God. The choice is
yours. The opportunity is yours. Accept the gift God offers you today!
